Default 95 civic making loud screetching sound?

I have a 95 Civic Coupe with a 167,000 miles on it. When i accelerate, it is making a loud screetching noise like something is grinding. The noise even happens sometimes when i start the car. The car is just sitting there in park and it is making this noise. Not sure what it is. I just changed the oil last week. I thought it might be the breaks, but why would the noise happen if the car is in park. I need help!

if it happens when ur have the AC on then its the belts. best bet if buying new belts and if it keeps doing it then its something else... i have a 95 coupe with about the same mileage and it does that too.

If the noise gets louder when you rev it, then it's probably a belt.

TIMING BELT!

believe dat..haha...ive had those go bad on me soo many times...including my moms van that has one going on it...soo i need to replace one too...just keep an eye on it..cause if it snaps ur dun...might wanna get it replaced when u get a chance...but make it soon.. and just to prevent the fan belt from doing that...turn off ur accessorys before u turn off ur car...(fan)

ur belts will make this noise too when they are wet...soo if its raining out and u hit a puddle stop and then go again and it does this then they are just wet...brakes screech but they are a uniform screech screech screech..from the squeelers... u can still run them unsafely(not recomended) while squeeling..but when it starts to crunch..get them replaced...haha..but good luck stoping after the squeelers go..

Hey, I had this happen on my 90 civic it happened when my heat was on and the car was idiling or when i accelerated when the engine was cold. My car has seperate belts for the ac, altenator, etc.... Any mechanic will do it, and go through each belt and replace the bad one. My advice is to leave it with the mechanic overnight so he can do it in the morning with a cold engine so he can pinpoint the exact belt and not waste money. I think it cost me like 60 bucks for a goodyear mechanic to do it.

Hope it helps
