Default 95 honda civic ex tranny jerking

as the title says i have a 95 ex with and auto tranny that seems that on hills or even flat surfaces it will jerk two times and then be fine or untill another big hill. today i was driving at 60 and all of a sudden it started to do quick jerks for over a mile it would seem if i let off the gas a little it would stop and when i gave it back again it would do it again. so what im asking is has anyone ever had this happen to them and what did they have to do to fix it? or will i have to replace it?

Why do you think the problem is the tranny as opposed to the engine?

Is the CEL ON?

First try a basic tune up (plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor) and also replace the fuel filter. Checking the ignition timing would also be a good idea.

i just didn't think that any of the motor stuff would give the exact jerks each time.. i replaced the spark plugs about a year ago with bosh plat 2. i did realize that the disturbitor cap was warped so i moved 1 of the screws to another location so it's sealed up.. there was alittle flaky stuff in the cap but took a screw driver and got it all off. i'll dig deeper though

How long have you had your Civic?

Auto trans on a Honda has a history of jerking pretty hard especially when downshifting. You may want to change your fluids using Honda oil to see if it fixes your problem. There are many discussions about using non Honda fluids since Detron II is not available as a viable replacement.

I'm not a big fan of using used trans/engine not unless I could see it running. My option has always been rebuilting my stuff by a reputable shop.

Of course, without driving in the car with you, I cannot rule out a transmission problem; however, that doesn't seem to be a common cause for the issue you describe.

Most on this forum would tell you to dispose of the Bosch plugs immediately and replace them with OEM NGK plugs. I would agree. In addition, you should also replace the plug wires, which are unfortunately a bit expensive. As the cap and rotor sound like they have seen better days, they too should be replaced.

i have owned the civic for just about a year coming up january which i did a tune up plugs, k&n air filter, synthitic oil, oil filter and has ran great and been on money trips put about 1,000 miles on it so far and about a week a go it started this when i had the ac unit on and i was doing bout 45 or so.. then i drove bout 13 miles slowed down to 45 from 60 for a weight station n when i gave it gas it gave 2 quick jerks and never felt it again. and felt it when i went up some step hills with the ac on going up every hill not big hills due i live in florida but good sized ones. but today it gave quick jerks one after another like cutting out or something for a good mile i dunno

Like Ron said, its hard to diagnose without driving in the car. Is it jerking or does feel like its missing? Does it happen without the AC on?

I figured out whats going on.. when your driving and you need to give it alittle gas when it shifts down to passing gear well the overdrive seems to not know what it wants to do stay out or go in overdrive.. reason i found out i drove in d3 and it never happen and when i shifted back in drive it would. Im woundering if the over drive will go out if thats all or will the rest of the tranny go out also after a while? Im going to have a flush done at a local shop cause it's not quite the right color

Yeah, first try an ATF flush. Make sure the shop uses Honda or Honda-compatible ATF.
