Default 97 Civic DX

I have a 97 Civic DX Hatchback. 1.6L with the 5 speed S40 transmission. I thought I had a throw out bearing going bad because of the grinding noise coming from the tranmission area. When you pushed in on the clutch the noise would stop and when you let off it would start up again. So I put a new clutch in the car with new throw out bearing and flywheel bearing. After I got it back together to my amaze it was still doing the same thing. I continued to drive and noise continued to get louder. I finally parke it. I finally decided I had a transmission problem. I pulled the transmission and was going to get another from a Honda Salvage, but I decided to contact my local Honda dealer and tell their service manager my problem and he told me that that there were some problems with the main bearing in that transmission and that is probably what my problem is. So I decided to order an overhual kit and fix it myself. I am mechanically inclined so I dont have a problem doing it but with that said I have never been into a transaxle.
I would appreciate any advice or info on this. I am also looking for a schematic for this transmission and I am having problems finding one if someone could help locate me one. I also have a buddy of mine that is a diesel mechanic that is going to help me when I pull it apart. Thank's in advance for any info you can give.

I got my overhaul kit and got the transmission almost done. The main shaft bearing was toast. Everything else looked good inside. I broke one of the plastic oil guide plates when pulling bearing on counter shaft. It was very brittle, had to order it from Honda and will have it in couple days. Only cost 5.00, would have to say it is a pretty easy overhaul if you have mechanic experience. Would also like to thank JWSimons for the schematic, needed to know what to torque everything down at. And helps if you have any questions when putting back together. I will have have 225.00 in parts, that is for all the bearings and seals and the oil guide plate I broke & shipping. i ordered kit off internet. I will update when I get it back in car.

thanks for the update, usualy threads just die off and most of the time you dont know if the person got the problem fixed or not, its nice when someone lets you know the final outcome.. and you are very welcome.

p.s. if you have mechanic experience you could give that help back to someone else... pay it forward, if you get me...

I got transmission back in car and everything works great. That bad main shaft bearing was the problem. Now its nice and quite. Thank's for everything.
