Red face 97 EX turns over, won't start - help!

Hi, my son has a 97 Civic EX. He recently said his oil light came on, but he didn't add any oil. Then one morning he was warming it up to go to school. He went inside the house and when he came out, it wasn't running.
Now, it will crank, but won't start.
It has plenty of gas. And fuel pressure in the lines all the way to the injectors.
I checked the spark plugs and got good spark.
It doesn't seem to be a timing belt.
Any thoughts?
A neighbor who is a mechanic thinks the engine may be blown. He says it sounds like no compression. If that's the case, what's to be done about it? New engine.
I would appreciate any ideas you may have.
Thanks.

Also, I didn't realize until I posted this that it's in the wrong forum. Is there any way to delete it after you've posted it?

Unfortunately I agree. Once that oil light comes on he should have immediately stopped driving the car, and put oil in it. Compression check is your best bet.

Good luck and i'm sorry to hear that happened.

You can rent (for free) a compression tester from Autozone/Advance Auto Parts. I would start there, run the test and see what kind of numbers you get. Be sure to follow the DIY Tutorial here: https://www.hondacivicforum.com/foru...ad.php?t=40559 to make sure you're doing it correctly (suprisingly enough, a LOT of people don't do it right..)

Good luck, and please post your results.

EDIT: Moving this to the proper section.
