Default 97 Honda Civic Running Hot

I bought spark plugs, thermal stat, break switch and thats everything I've done to it. I had a man to check to see was it my radiator and he said it was not the radiator and he doesnt know why its smoking be we couldnt get the car to start to see anything, but it seems the only time it smokes is when it starts to overheat and start squirting out the antifreeze and the smoke comes out towards the passenger side of the hood where my water tank is located. but that's all I have ever done to it. She said she do not remember when the last time she put some oil in it

Is there enough oil? Is the radiator full (not the tank, check the radiator itself, but of course only with the engine cold).

It sounds like driving while overheated may have toasted the engine, thus now the failure to start. If it still won't start, do a compression test.
