Default 98 civic ac blows cold then warm

Hello, a few days ago my 98 civic started to blow cold then warm ac, cold then warm again around 3 pm when it was around 95 outside. At night time it was cold all the time. I also noticed that the compressor was not cycling off at all. The next day the ac was cold and hot, cold and hot, then at night I heard a noise coming from my engine and smoke coming from the engine compartment. My ac compressor was sparking and not spinning. I turned off the ac but not sure where the system stands at this time. What is going on? If anyone can give me any suggestions I would appreciate it. I have not checked the pressures as I do not have a set of good ac guages. Was the original problem low freon, or oil. Right now there is no gap between the coil and compressor.

oh and by the way the clutch will not spin all the way around, it gets stuck at a certain point.

Sounds like the compressor is bad. With engine off, the inner shaft (on the clutch plate) should turn freely with just a little "once around" bump. Or the pulley bearing is wobbling so bad that the clutch doesn't work right.
