I have a d16y8 and the other day just out of the blue it started knocking...I changed out the rod bearings(they were goners) and the crank was not damaged.While putting it back together I pulled the oil filter to change it out and no drip or run of oil down the back of the block so I looked in it and it was DRY!!!!WTF?!?After I put oil and filter I drove it around the block and at first no knock but by the time I got back the knock was back but not as bad.Oil pump???Suggestions needed

 

Sounds like it is re-build time.

Does the oil pressure light work? Did it come on?

I've never found it productive to tinker around with bearings. Replace the whole engine or the bottom half with a used one and try to get a guarantee on it.

Also if you do mess with the bearings, since the oil pump on these turns with the crank, you should take the spark plugs out and spin the engine with no compression to prime it and make sure the oil is flowing before trying to start it.

 

the oil light started comin on before I changed the rod bearings but Im in the process at the moment pulling this 1 out to take to machine shop get the block honed, decked and make sure the cranks alright and then rebuild it
