Default 98 Honda Civic DX

Hi All,

Got into the DX this morning and turned the key and got nothing. What was strange was that there was "buzzing". I can't really imitate the sound with the keyboard but it was an intermittant buzzing. After a bit, I could hear exactly the same sound you would get if your blinker was on (even though it wasn't). Then it switched from there to the panel with the heat controls and I could see the lights on the heat control panel pulsing and hear a buzzing over there. To top it all off, when I removed the key completely from the ignition, the pulsating buzzing continued for maybe a minute more. I can only guess a wiring issue?

Thoughts?

Most likely either the battery has run down or there are bad connections at the battery. Try jump-starting it.

The buzzing you hear is a relay or come other part coming on very weakly because it has too little voltage.

Any idea why it would switch from powering one thing to the other, even things that are not turned on, and also keep running them when the key is completely removed from the ignition?

Default Problem Solved

Hi All,

Thanks for the comments. Disconnected the battery and brought it in to test and it was indeed toast. Put a new one in last night and it works like a charm (which is nice as that's an easy fix). Interesting. I've never seen a battery do that to a vehicle before.
