Default 99 Civic LX rear brakes

Hey there. My 99 Civic LX has about 155k miles. I did a pad swap on the front brakes and am curious if I can replace the shoes on the rear. I was told they were worn thin. I'm curious if it's safe just to swap out the shoes and the springs at this many miles, or if a new drum and other parts are necessary. The brakes don't seem to shake or squeak when I brake, some I'm hoping this will get me by for a while. I'm planning on picking up an OEM brake and spring set from the dealer down the street.

Thanks

Why not open it up and see how much is remaining.Remove the wheel and hammer on the drum. Usually, it takes two front brake replacements before the rear need replacement.Might as well resurface the drums when putting on new brake shoes.

Yes I'd also suggest you inspect them yourself and decide what to do. Replacing only the shoes is apropriate if the drum is still in good condition.

Hey guys, thanks for the advice. I did as you said. The drums were in great shape (no wear, ruts or chunks missing on the inside) and I compared the new shoes to the old ones. They were definitely very close to the metal on both sides.

Changing them out was like disassembling and reassembling a freaking bear trap but it's all back together now. Righteous! Thanks!
