99 civic Overheating after highway use
i have a 99 civic lx.109,000 miles. in city use the car does fine and the gauge doesn't move from normal temp. , but after driven out of town the car will begin to show heating up on the temp gauge when the car comes to a stop. once the car moves , the temp will go back to normaltemp on the gauge. i've changed the waterpump with belt, thermostat, checked the fan and is working properly. fan switch and coolant temp sensor have been replaced. i've been told that it might be a head gasket but i wanted to get other opinions to see if im missing something.

Sounds like poor coolant circulation. I don't think it's the head gasket per se, but if you took the head off, you can check for arteriosclerosis in the engine. But before you do that, you could tryflushing your cooling system. If that doesn't help, you can replace the radiator and hoses. Radiators have a bunch of small canals that do clog over time.

Probably going to need the radiator itself. If it's not clogged inside they can also have the little fins corrode off of the outside. That drastically reduces cooling effectiveness.

make sure u have the right amount of coolant in there and that theres no air in the system. bad head gasket is a possibility. i'd have a compression test done real soon to comfirm. bad gaskets can lead to real bad things..
