Default 99 lx issues

Hey guys,
My wifes 99' lx has 75k miles on it and its been doing some funny things lately. Yesterday she said she started the car and the engine went crazy, she said it was loud and sounded like it was going to explode. (Note: parked in a garage) This went away after about 30 seconds she said. Then today on here way to work she said when she got up to 60 mph that the engine started to get loud and shake. But only when she went up to about 60. She said it was fine if she stayed at 50. Also she said that the car felt like it was loosing power. Her father thinks it may be the catalytic converter but I don't know about that. one last thing, I noticed that there has been some odd sputtering the past couple months while accelerating. I changed the spark plugs and wires and I keep up on normal maintenance.

Guys any help would be great!! thanks in advance!

power loss could be a clogged cat. have you washed the car latly in the engine bay?
