Default 99 lx, recent metallic sputtering noise....

My civic has about 78k on it and about the last 5k miles this noise has seem to have gotten worse. When I accelerate(usually up hills, is when it is most noticeable), the car makes this light sputtering noise almost like metal. Then once you get to a certain point it goes away and seems like it has just a tad more power.... no mods all stock. any suggestions would be great guys.

Thanks

Is it pinging? Check your timing? You can try to used a higher grade of gas to see if it goes away.

Also, check your exhaust manifold for cracks.

If it's a stick, downshift when going up big hills. The "certain point" where it goes away is usually level ground in that scenario. If it's an automatic...I dunno what it could be.
