950 dollars........is way way way toooooo much money
the discharge hose is around 100 or so dollars , labor to replace it 1/2 hr

the only thing you need is a compressor coil .. price around 125-175 dollars

labot to repalce it 2-3 hrs and that should include a/c service cause they have to evacuate and recharge system .. also if replacing the coil, the have to disconnect the lower part of the leaky discharge hose ,to remove the compressor , which means to replace the hose all they have to do is unscrew the top nut ( 30 seconds at most )

so if this is a good shop they should NOT charge you any labor to replace the discharge hose ........I know i don't to my customer in a similar situation ..

so to sum it all up

labor 3 hrs ,, $ 210-250
hose $100-125
coil $150
r134a $ 20

you do the math ...

also make sure that they test the thermo protector on top of the compressor ,, i have seen a lot of those go bad but not too many coils,,

ask them if they tested it ,, cause power goes through the trermo protector before it goes to the coil..

100 - 125 for a hose;
screw that.
my brother helped a friend of his with a hose problem-
think it was ac and on a saab, or volvo (something like that) -
bought from bulk hose and got fittings put on at a machine shop -
very little cost

Just buy the parts used off ebay and do it urself. Even if u ended up taking 4 days to do it and rented a car during those days, its still half of what the dealer would have charged you.

I'm just afraid that I may get stuck and end up paying some one to do it, will need to study the job prior to start to ensure I can do it.

I'm a eBay user, so not afraid to shop there since I know what to look for. I'll take my chances.
