ac removal
wassup? 1st post. here's the deal, i picked up a 95 lx that needs work. the guy that had it hit a ditch with it. i got the front end pulled out, and the a/c is shot. a couple of the lines are busted, so i was thinking of removing it, to possibly make room for a larger radiator, which i havent looked into at all yet, or whatever, just to clean up the engine bay a little. i really dont see myself spending the money to get this fixed, and maybe make a couple bucks selling the good parts. ive already looked around the site and got some info to remove it, but one post said i need to get a part to replace the compressor or gut it otherwise the defog and heat wont work. is this true? any help in removing it would be great. thanx.
Since the parts broke in a wreck the refrigerant should already be gone. (It is illegal to intentionally release refrigerant into the air, if any remains you would have to have it recovered.) Once the pressure is zero you can just unbolt parts. Tape up all the ports to keep junk out so the parts can be reused.
If you go for a total removal including removing the evaporator box under the dash (accessed by removing the glove compartment, you don't need to take the whole dash out), the fan will not be connected to the heater. There are two options here, either gut the evaporator box and put it back in, or obtain the blank air duct used in a non A/C car.
