Adjusting Headlights, Overheating, Xenon
Hey,
I have a honda civic 2005 lx sedan. It has approximately 118.000 miles. I have three questions.
1. I have overheating problem. I went to a mechanic several times. He tells me that it might be head causing air. Well, i want to know what you think about this. It gets overheated, and when i pull over, the fans won't kick in. Sometimes, the temperature goes up to H and comes down. Sometimes, nothing will happen.
2. My headlights are so dim. I need to adjust them. Can someone provide instructions? I have searched online, and still doing. Can't find specific ones for my model. I am sure those are similar, but i want to be sure about what i am doing.
3. I would like to install xenon, but the webpage has several selections that i am not aware of. http://www.xenonsupply.com/9005.html
i have regular headlights. what do i need to buy?

1. If your head gasket leaks, air (and exhaust gas) from the combustion chambers will leak into the cooling system and push the coolant out. Then the engine overheats because of lack of coolant. You can tell if this is happening by finding the radiator keeps getting low on coolant even though you keep refilling it, though meanwhile the plastic tank stays full or even overflows. (If both the radiator and tank become empty, it is usually a leak to the outside.) Check in the radiator when the engine is cold before you use the car for the first trip of the day. It should stay full to the top.
2. If by dim you mean the light all shines at the ground or off the to the side instead of down the road like it should be, that can be fixed by adjusting. Park the car in a dark level area. You need space in front of the car to see where the light goes. Shining the lights on a wall right in front of the car doesn't tell you anything. Turn the lights on LOW BEAM. (Always adjust for low beam performance and the brights will take care of themselves). Turn the adjusting screws to your liking (but keep them moderately low and to the right so you won't blind oncoming drivers). Disconnect the other headlight or stand in front of it so you can see only the effect of the one you are adjusting.
2a. If the lights are just dim, it could be because the silver coating in the back of the headlight housings has degraded. The only cure for this is new housings.
3. Don't put HID bulbs in stock housings. Just don't. They don't focus right and will create a lot of glare for other drivers.
