Default Adjusting Trunk Latch on 2003 coupe

Can anyone tell me how I adjust my trunk latch? I really have to slam the thing to get it to latch.

simple! I had the same problem and it was really bothering me

you'll need

1 hammer
1 10MM ratchet
flashlight

first things first, make sure the latch mechanism is working. open your trunk, and use your key or a small screwdriver to push up on it to see if it locks around the key and latches like it should

If this works then your latch mechanism is obviously ok and the only prob is the alignment

with your trunk open, look down at the center, you'll see a "U" shaped hook, this is the part you'll have to adjust, there's a little plastic cover covering the screws so pop that off, it comes straight up

now the fun part

Lay your backseats down so you can crawl inside of your trunk, now see how the U hook is aligning with the latch mechanism (use the flashlight so you can really see how it's acting in there). I think my problem was that the U hook moved down so the latch mechanism wouldn't catch. loosen the bolts that hold the U hook down and you'll see there's a lot of play. Anyway, move the U hook to where it needs to be and ratchet those bolts down tight.

You can use the hammer for "finer" adjustment of the U hook

Hope that helps!!

PS: I found that with mine I can't slam it down anymore.. just have to let the trunk lid lay down and then apply pressure and it latches perfect
