sometimes when im driving around with my AC on after a little while a loud screeching noise will come from my engine and when i turn the AC off the noise stops, my dad said the timing belt probably needs to be replaced, would that be whats causing the nosie or is it something else, if it is something else, what is it?

 

mine used to make a noise like that to but mine just ended up being my short ram hitting a wire

 

its the drive belt for the ac compressor. its either wearing, loose, or its possible the compressors going out. first thing to do is go buy a new belt. i like the gatorback ones, i think theyre made by goodyear. then throw that on and tighten it up pretty snug, and see if that fixes it. if not, tighten it a little more to see if it gets better. if tightening it doesnt help, then it might be that your compressor is going out. take it to a shop with ac equiptment, and they can probably tell you for sure what the problem is. if its the compressor, have them drain the refrigerant, then go home and swap out the compressor, and go back and have them refill it.
