Default air conditioning sqeaks

My air conditioning wasnt blowing cold air so i decided to recharge it. I have a 92 civic so i used r12 refridgarent. When i was finished the ac started squeaking very loud as soon as i turn it on. It blows cold air fine. It never used to do that when the ac wasnt charged. What is the problem? Also when at idle with ac on, it squeaks for a little and then stops and keeps on repeating. please help.

First, are you sure it's the AC and not something else belt-driven (like power steering)?
Second, when your AC didn't have any gas in it, you weren't using it, right? Maybe the pulley got rusty and that makes the noise. Also, the belt might be slipping, so a tightening should be done. Get that belt-anti-squeak spray at car shop and spray it where the belt touches the pulley. If the sound goes away, then the pulley is loose and you gotta tighten it.

Tighten the belt some. If it is tight and still squeaks, put on a new belt. While you have the belt off, spin the compressor pulley and the idler by hand and see if the bearings are getting noisy. I've never had any success with the belt dressing spray.

It may be overcharged now. That puts a real strain on the compressor, thus also on the belt.
