Default Alternator Issue..?

92 Civichatch DX 5spd...car randomly died at a stop sign while drivino i went to turn it back on and it wudnt start was just turnig over..me and my buddy got out and got it popped started on the 3rd try. drov it home about 12miles away and right before i made it home my headlights and pretty much every light on the car dimmed out and then pulling into the parking lot i felt thee car slowly losing power. now first thing i thot was alternator...but then i thot if the battery is fully charged car shud still start and run off battery til it dies right? well i went to jump it car wont start. i hooked up one of those battery packs and car power was perfect but as soon as i unhooked it power dimmed, so im guessing my battery isnt holding a charge but yet wen i turn the key i hear the engine trying to turn over and then a loud ticking signaling the battery is dead..noow im thinking the battery is dead completly and im guna need a new one BUT why wudnt the car jumpstart and then run off alternator? idk im confused...do i need a new battery? new alternator? both? i just fid it hard to believe in the course of a night the battery and alternator went on it at the same time practically...also this may be completly unrelated but wen the car started acting funny that night before i had to pop start it i heard a strange ticking under the hood coming from the drivers side and then my power steering stopped working after about 15mins of hearing tht noise. sorry for typig so much, but i really cud use some help thx

Sounds like more than one problem. Check the belts for alternator and power steering. Charge the battery overnight with a battery charger and then see if it holds enough power to crank the car. If not, replace battery. The lights etc running down mean that the alternator was definitely not working.
