Default Alternator Removal

I have a '94 Civic LX sedan (D15B7 engine) and I'm trying to remove the alternator. I the top bolt out and removed the two wires for the alternator. I've removed the nut on the alternator through bolt for the lower mount bracket. I'm having ALOT of trouble removing the alternator through bolt. This is the bolt that goes holds the alternator onto the lower mount bracket. I sprayed everything down with WD-40 and PB Blaster. I hit the through bolt with a hammer alot. I stuck a screw driver between the square part of the through bolt and bracket and hit it with a hammer in an attempt to drive the bolt out. Nothing has worked, the bolt hasn't even budged. Am I doing something wrong? The first thing I removed was the adjusting bolt. Then I pushed the alternator all the way forward and removed the belt from the alternator pulley. Then I removed the lower mount nut. Then I attempted to remove the entire bolt, which is where I am currently stuck. Anyone have any recommendations, I'm all ears.

I just did this exact job on my 98 civic. I removed the through bolt by using a hammer and a philips screw driver. I hit it on side with the nut with the hammer hitting the screw driver which in turn hit the bolt. It came out the other side after a few hits. You might need to get a #1 philips which has a smaller diameter.

I really had trouble getting the bolts off the lower bracket mount as I ended up having to get a deep socket since a regular socket didn't allow room for my ratchet wrench to attach to it b/c of the way the lower mount is shaped. I hope this helps. I would not try to hit it where the square part of the bolt is. I would hit it on the end where the nut was.

I took the smallest 3/8in socket I have (like 5mm or something) and I attached 3 or 4 extensions to the socket. I put the socket up against the bolt and hit it with a sledge hammer. No dice. I'm thinking maybe the socket is not tranfserring all the force of my blows. I'm gonna try with the longest screw driver I have. The problem is there is really not alot of room and the brakes get in the way.

did you remove the front wheel? it will give you a lot more room and then turn your front wheels all the way to the left so give yourself a bit more room.

You may be able to loosen the bolt by repeatedly moving the alternator up and down.

I ended up hitting it with a socket until it was out. Then I used a screw driver to finish the job. Thanks for all the help.

Just did the same thing this weekend but with bad results. Is your alternator fried? If it is, just cut into the aluminium mount on the unit with a grinder and a zip cut, pop off unit, then cut the lower bolt. Sounds like a hack job but it was the only way mine could be removed. I hit on that bolt with a drift pin and a BFH until i mushroomed the bolt. No go. Good luck with it.
