anyone have a clue what this is?
I just finished swapping a sir II b16 into my 93 coupe and was wondering if anyone knew what this was? it was hanging before and so I just left it hanging. I am getting a getting really bad gas fhumes in my car and I just want to know if it could be related. Any help would be appreciated, thanks[IMG][/IMG]
I need to know what car that engine came out of. Year, model, the whole deal. I can look it up on AllData. And is that part connected to the fuel injector? For some reason, im thinking its out of the EVAP system.
came out of a 92-95 jdm civic type r. Its not wired to the fuel injector, but it enters the wiring harness where the 02 sensor is wired in, so probably has to do with emissions or something
It may be a purge solenoid. I couldn't find a picture of it on the computer, but it showed me a location, which was pretty close to the fuel rail, on the right side. I think that its function is to purge the charcoal canister which stores fuel vapors while the engine is shut off.
Edit: I looked at the diagram of the evap system, the purge solenoid has two wires going to it, one that is red and one that is yellow/black (yellow with a black stripe). I can see the wires in that picture, but i cannot see the stripes, so you can look at that. This is from a 1.6L VTEC engine from a civic sold in the U.S. so im not sure if its the same engine.

thats def. what it is, and I am gettin a very bad gas smell in my car to so that is probably the reason. do you have any idea what I am supposed to do with it? (installation/hookup wise) Thanks for the help
From the look of the solenoid, the two fittings should have some hoses going to it. One should come from the charcoal canister, and one should go to the IM. I'm not completely sure as i have never hooked this up but that is what i'm thinking it is. It pisses me off that AllData doesn't tell me how to hook it up, but ill keep looking.
Edit: I was looking at the diagram some more, and damn is that thing confusing. One of the hoses def. comes from the canister, right where the EVAP purge control diaphragm valve connects (which is on top of the charcal canister). The other one goes into i don't know where. It seems liek its going into the intake ports, so it might be the IM but thats just a guess.

Does that smell come at idle? I ask that because the EVAP system doesn't purge at idle. Where is the gas smell coming from? The fumes may be coming from the EVAP canister. Look for it on the left side of the engine. That may also be where the line should be coming from that goes to that solenoid.
