Question Average life of a timing belt???

I was just wondering how many miles you guys & gals have seen Timing belts go???
I have about 65,000 miles on the belt now. I had it checked about 20,000 miles ago & I was told it looked brand new. But it is rubber & it does deteriorate.
Thanks

I have seen my friend's Nissan 300ZX that had original belt went around 100000 miles.
My 82 Jetta broke belt at around that much.

But, why not change at recommended interval if you can?

You don't normally see timing belts just go. These are interference motors. If the timing belt goes, there is a 99% chance that the motor needs to be replaced. You either replace it as a part of preventative maintenance, or you play with fire hoping nothing happens.

I replace my belts every 80k or so.

Timing belts on 1990 Civics (4th Gen) are rated for 60,000 miles.
