There is a very good DIY on axle replacement on this site.

If you're going to replace the boots, take the axle out of the car and cut the metal bands that hold the boots on. Then pull the inner joint apart and take off the snap rings that hold the triangle piece on the shaft and pull the inner boot off. Next you'd do the outer boot, sliding it all the way up off off the inner end of the shaft. The outer joint is not intended to come apart. By the time you buy two boots and go thru all that it starts looking pretty good to just pay the $60.00 for a rebuilt axle.

well ya know a quick way to find out..... cause i cannt remember anymore than its a BIG nut.LOL

but go to autozone or napaauto parts and ask them to see a new axle and just use the new axle nut to find the right size socket and buy that socket....

I think it is 32mm. Drive the car to the store and test it on your nut. Autozone has a "loaner tool" program. That means you buy the tool but they will let you return it and get all your money back when you're done.

i think the axles themselves are pretty good , its just the boots that are broken. A local mechanich is charging me $60 to replace them and im thinking i might just drop the car there, is it a hard task ? i mean i just finished swapping an engine so i dont think it'll be that bad but once again i've never done axles or boots before
