well, i recently sold my turbo kit off of my b16, and of course i was using synthetic oil with it. well, i know that once you use synthetic oil, you're supposed to stay with it. but the thing is, ive had the kit on for only like 2000 miles, do i absolutely need to stay with synthetic or can i switch back to regular? thanks guys!

you can't go back to regular oil. synthetic oil has tighter viscosity tolerences, which affect your piston rings over time.

in other words, your piston rings have adjusted to synthetic oil. keep it that way.

 

well actually, i just installed new piston rings about 100 miles ago. is it still too late?

normally I would say yes, it's too late.

but 100 miles isn't a lot.

 

why does it matter that much? cost is damn near the same if you do your oil changes at the recommended intervals.

 

well, now that i think about it, its more like 200 or so, lol. i just dont want to go about buying synthetic oil everytime i do an oil change. think 200 is still too many?

did you break your rings/pistons in with the synthetic? if you did thats way bad i can gaurentee that your rings didnt fully break in because synthetic lubricates way to well and no load will be put on the rings...

 

that's only partly true.

chevy corvettes, porsches and several other high priced cars are broken in with synthetic oil straight from the factory.

in fact, mobil1 often advertises that their synthetic oil is OEM on some of the highest performance cars on the market.

 

yeah but we are talking about a civic not a half million dollar car. civics are designed with regular oil for in them for break in and what not. those high end cars are engineered to use that 24/7 from when they roll off the factory floor
