backfire when attempting to start.
my 93 honda has a D16y7. before it was stock. its doing the same thing even after the swap. before it quit i would put it in drive and the shifter wouldnt let me shift out of park....now no starting and when i try it either skips the starter or it back fires and bogs really bad. either way it wont start. i kept the dizzy and the IM, changed the fuel pump and MAP, 2nd time a computer fried on me, so i use a manual ECU just to get it to start. . right before it started to quit on me the engine would bog while driveing and i would mash the pedal but only go 5mph. someone please help.
Backfiring is very often because the timing is way off. Check the cam timing. Make sure the plug wires are in the right order. With the engine set to TDC1, the rotor would point to wire #1.
The shifter locked in park has nothing to do with the engine. That is controlled by a solenoid activated by the brake light circuit (detecting that the driver has stepped on the brake pedal to unlock it). So first thing to check there is make sure the brake lights work properly.
