Battery Light indicates problem battery OK Alt OK ??
Hi all:
New to this forum but not to Honda Civics! Have a 97 HONDA Civic EX with Vtec engine that my wife uses as daily driver ..... the other day she said she noticed that the red BATT Light warning was on and came home directly ...... Removed alternator [nasty job JMHO] and took to AutoZone for test GOOD! Took it to another parts store for 2nd opinion .... still GOOD Reinstalled alt [another nasty job!]...... and replaced battery with new one from Walmart Still red light on! ...... checked connectors and ground ...... still red! Added 2nd gound wire to frame ....... still red! Checked error codes ...... no errors or faults ... Any SUGGESTIONS other than a trip to HONDA dealer FOR TEST? Thanks in advance! Joe :) |
The wire from the alt to the battery, does it look frayed or damaged in any way? That is the only other thing I can think of. I am sure other will jump in and help soon.

Nope ........ all wires look OK!
Would haved loved to have the alt show 'bad' or the battery been dead at least I would have known HOW to fix it! :( I'm stumped ..... ps: the car still runs great ! Joe |
have you checked the brake fluid? Sometimes it comes on when it is low. At least it did with my 98.

Unplug the round plug from the alternator. Turn key on. If the light still comes on, there is a short in the wire. Look up "fuse 15 problem". You should wiggle the wires on the back of the engine during the test, as the short could come and go. It shorts where the wires go through the intake manifold bracket.
