Default Black soot out tailpipe? Too much oil to turbo?

Guy i bought my civic from gave me a valve and said to install inline with turbo oil feed to reduce oil flow because it was getting too much and blowing out the exhaust. result is a blackened rear bumper and trunk lid i have to wash constantly. Can this be the case? I wouldnt think you could get too much oil flow. 99 dx d16y7 engine running 6lbs boost. It does puff mild black smoke when i shift moderately hard i was told.

I think black soot is solid carbon i believe. I looked it up in my big book about cars and it says that the soot is known as particulates. It is caused by fuel additives. Maybe that helps, it probably doesn't.

If your car is running as rich as it must be running for all that black smoke and soot, then there should be a check engine light and a corresponding code. I think autozone/pep boys will tell you the code for free.

if yer car's burning rich it could be your oxygen sensor. but i think you'd have a check engine light.

its hard to lean it out safely with a Hondata, without a new chip. get it on the dyno and get a new chip burnt.
