I own a 05 Civic Ex Special Edition and the head gasket blew out, I took it to a pep boys near my house and they gave me a price quote of $1500. I want to know if it really does cost that much because i felt it was a little expensive and if it can be done for cheaper somewhere else. I live in middlesex county, new jersey so if anyone knows a good mechanic in this area it would be great.

 

Definitely too much. Heck, if I had the time I'd do it for you for about $300. Don't pay more than $500 for that job. If you want I have a mech in philly who'll do it for an ok price.

 

Do it yourself. I payed 35$ for my head gasket and replaced it in 1 day and don't know jack about cars.
