Bogging down, white smoke
I have a 94 civic dx, with a d15b7 in it, 2 weeks ago i blew my head gasket, i replaced it without checking head, now it is bogging down at 3000rpm and when i begins to accelerate it puts white smoke out of the exhaust,i know this means its a coolant problem so is it likely the head is cracked? local machine shope want close to $200 to check the head, i have a d16z6 head is it compatible if so i think it would be wise just to swap heads because i dont have the $ or time now to wait on it to be chacked, whats your opinion?
Well the head you have probably warped, causing the gasket to blow again. It would need to be taken to a shop to be decked/checked for levelness if you wanted to re-use it.
If you know that the z6 head you have is good, you can install that. You would essentially be doing a mini-me head swap. If you wired it in and picked up a z6 ECU (P28), you would then have vtec, too. Not sure if you would need to swap out the stock injectors for the z6 injectors though. My mind is leaning towards no assuming that all 92-95 D series motors used the same size injectors. I believe 96-00 is when the base models went to a 170cc injector while the EX's and SI's had 240cc injectors.
