Default brakepad thickness specification?

people,

Anybody have the spec for min thickness (probably in mm) for the 01 civic EX? Does that include the steel backing as well(some specs include that, strangely)?

Right now, I have 2.5mm pad only thickness on pass side, 3mm on driv side.

Thanks!!

Stock pads have a squeaker spring that starts making noise at about 1.5 mm of pad only. They will technically keep working until worn down to the metal, but then of course there is a need for immediate replacement and the rotor will be toast.

I think it's intended that when the groove in the middle is gone, time to replace.

Big thanks, MK. Good advice. Guess I can wait say, another couple of months, based on my mileage. But what do you mean by "groove in the middle" is gone? Also, these Honda style pads- I dont see where that metal wear indicator is, unlike, say, my Pontiac . I cant see any metel at all, even with a flashlight.

Thanks!!

There is supposed to be a hairpin shaped spring on one end of the pad. When the pad wears down enough, the end of the spring will start to drag on the rotor and make noise to remind the driver that the brakes need attention. Some aftermarket pads don't have that feature.

If you look at new pads the friction material looks like it has been cut in half, but not all the way down to the metal backing.
