Default A/C

So i got a '94 civic LX sedan and the A/C doesn't work that good. The thing is that the A/C will work fine for a couple of min (maybe about 20) and then it will just die out. Im not totally sure but it might start up again (thats wat my dad told me one time). I'm not really sure wat is wrong. My dad suspects that the condensor fan might be bad and my shop teacher said that it could be the low side switch. I'm not into the practice of changing parts til it works so any1 know how to test the system for what might be wrong. I have a basic knowledge of how A/C works and the parts but i don't have experiance testing A/C systems and installing parts. Any good explanations on how to test would be greatly appreciated.
