Default A/c not working

Ok I have a 05 Honda Civic and the a/c just stopped working so I took it in guy charged me an arm and a leg to fix he replaced the blower fan and I needed a wire that was going to take two weeks to get there but "hot wired" direct? In the meantime.. so the next day drove maybe a good 20 miles and my car wouldn't go anymore shut it off tried to start again nothing waited 30 mins up it went so of course I'm in another city can't drive back to other guy so I take it in to nearest shop got charged over 500 for them to diagnose and fix well i guess the first guy didn't know what he was doing and connect the wrong wires and the car computer shut down he took those wires down and put it back to normal said due to that the main a/c circuit board needed to be replaced and is 489.00 plus 160 labor fee if I wanted to fix (what the hell!?!!!) Crazy !!! So have me part number 79500-s5da02 well got home looked it up and it's the control switch but like the one I turn to turn it on and off inside the car nothing under the hood and the price for that ( which I don't need replacing anyway?!) Is 40 bucks Soo help what's wrong with my a/c any ideas???
