Default A/C odors

Hi,

I have 97 Civic EX, and whenever my A/C goes on, it stinks so badly!

I believe there is no filter on 97 Civics (other models have filter underneath the glove box).

What could be the reason, and what should I do in order to get rid of that smell and get clean air?

Please help.

Thanks!

What kind of smell is it? Your evaporator drain might be clogged causing water to become trapped and mold to grow.

Yes, it is a mold smell....I'm pretty sure...it's like the old dirt smell.
Kinda hard to explain but it's BAD.

How do I clean my A/C system?
Would cleaning the evaporator do the job?
Where is evaporator drain located?

Please help!

Thank you.

Can I clean the evaporator (or its drain) without getting A/C refrigerant out?

Cause you gotta go to a shop to fill up the refrigerant again....right?

Please help.

Thanks.
