why you ask?
its is for fun.
i got a couple blocks and i wanna know
A: if i retain the original head to the d15b2 are there any cam variations that would up the preformance in anyway?
B: in what otherways could i squeaze more juice out of this little guy?
thanks for your input

put a d16y8/d16z6 head on it (run vtec)
put d16a1 pistons in the block (higher compression)
do you want to run all motor or turbo?

A: The only thing I can think about is simply getting a stage 1 or 2 camshaft. I'm sure there are other things you can do to up the performance without buying an aftermarket camshaft.

B: There are a whole bunch of ways you can get more power out of it, just upgrade everything and port & polish. Sweet. Remember, if you start to mess around with more than just simple bolt ons, tuning may be in your future. That can become costly. I have a stage 2 camshaft, springs/retainers, skunk2 IM, and could barely drive the car untuned. The gas mileage dipped to about 15 mpg, tuned it, and now I am about 25 mpg.

well i"m going to run boost.
probably a t28 making hopefully 10 lbs daily driving.
also i've got a friend that has a boosted probe (jdm mazda engine) and instead of running larger injectors he welded in a couple of injectors in before the manifold in the plumbing and he runs a progressive injector setup. so as his rpms go up and his boost reaches the injectors kick on.
atvantage?
near perfect feul to air ratios all the time.
so im going to combine that idea with progresive methenal injection system.

so what companys make good cams for these engines?
also.
everyone says d16y8 but if im boosted i would rather not run vtec.
any other head options that would be an increase over stock?

zex 59300 cam is the way to go. It's made by comp cams. check it out at imoprtperformanceparts..net. Awesome for z6 builds. I personally have a skunk 2 cam (not made anymore) and it is great as well. Its a bit rough cause I havent gotten it tuned yet - Ive got a ported head and more - But you can feel a definite power difference.

There is a constant debate on D-series.org about zex59300 vs. crower stage 2. My personal opinion is that the zex comes out on top. Most of the arguments on d-series end up with the zex coming out on top as well.

Check out the 59300

My advice....

Zex 59300
pnp head
vitara pistons 75.5
eagle rods
d16z6 block and head or d16z6 head and y8 block
y8 IM
new comp cams springs and retainers

Thats just my personal opinion though.

zex 59300 cam $229 @ importperformanceparts.net

Specs: (if you're interested)
vtec 260
primary 232
secondary 236
ex 268

@.050
vtec 220
pri 190
sec 194
ex 216

Good Luck
