Can the Dealer charge to read the computer code if Civic is still under manufacture's warranty
I have a 2005 Civic. The Check Engine Light (CEL) came on recently.TheCivic has58,000km and is 2.5 years old. The factory warranty is for 60,000km and 3 years. The Honda Dealer wants
to charge approximately$60 to read the computer's codes. Is this correct, that the Honda Dealer can charge to read the computer's codes? I thought, if the vehicle was still under the factory warranty that there would be no charge forreading the computer's codes. Anything that needs to be repaired would be covered under the factory warranty. Can theHonda Dealer do this?It does not seem fair. What action can I take?

I mean the dealer can do whatever they want really...I work at a GMC dealership, and they shouldnt charge if its under warrenty but they might still.....go to autozone theyll check ur codes for freee!

dealership can do what ever they want if you pay it and dont complain! ask to talk to the manager guy and try....
otherwise just go to autozone and have them check the codes free... all they do is plug a think into the computer plug under the dash! hell if you wanted you could probably buy your own code reader at autozone.

Well.... I am on the other side of this one. I don't feel they should charge you a nickle. 3 years 36K bumper to bumper... what does that mean exactly?
If I were charged... I would raise a big stink to the service manager..... but thats me.

well parts is another story! if you want the perfect OEM fit and quality then dealership is the best place to go!
if your talking about service then its definatly the stealership! i got a horror storry from my old truck and the dealership wanting to charge me 1200bucks for a tune up and all kinds of stupid crap i did the most i could myself but still paid like 400bucks for service from them and it didnt fix the problem at all!
i tok the truck to a small tranny shop they checked it out then sent me to another auto electic shop, and it turned out to be a 45dollar sensor on the tranny was throwing it all off. only a 60dollar fee to diagnos it and he didnt even make me pay labor fee to instal the part.
after that BS i will NEVER get SERVICE at a stealership again!

+1; they should not charge a penny under the bumper to bumper warranty. I'd ask the service manager. If they don't comply, then contact American Honda and tell them. This is unjustified. Any service related issue must be fix free of charge by Honda under their bumper to bumper coverage.
