Car Wont Start
So yesterday my check engine light was coming on, but everytime I shut off the car, and started it again it would go away for awhile. So the car was running fine so thought it would be fine until I could check what the light was coming on for. I had parked the car outside a store and shut it off and when i came back out it started for about a second and died right away. We tried push starting it and the engine would start but it would just putter at a low rpm and pressing the gas wouldn't do anything either.
Today I spent a efw hours to change a fuel filter that cost me $35 and didn't even work. So the fuel filter didn't fix it, what do you guys think it is?
When I go to start it, all my dash lights are on, including the check engine light which doesn't shut off, and it turns over but it just wont start. I don't think it's the starter but what do you think?
Also in the morning today after letting it sit all night when I went to start it, it started for like half a second then died right away.
Could this be the fuel pump? I was looking at upgrading to the Walbro 255, any suggestions or anything?
Thanks

Check your main relay here is a link and it also shows for other trouble shootings
http://techauto.awardspace.com/mainrelay.html
If you open the ignition key all the lights on your cluster should come ON and you can hear the fuel pump work then it shuts off. If you hear it should be fine....You will also need to check your rotor and distributor cap when they get bad you will lose the spark. Igniter's and coils also get bad...
***If your car it's OBD II just take it to AUTO ZONE they will diagnostic for free and tell you what code is coming out and what can be the causes****[&:]

Hard to bring it to autozone when I have to push the car lol.
Ya I think thats the fuel pump noise when i turn the key it makes a noise for abot a second.
I doubt its the mai nrelay because the weather is cold, not hot outside.
I tried following the troubleshooting guide, so if I hear the fuel pump when I turn the key, does this mean the main relay is working? How can I pull the CEL from my car without autozone?
Thanks for the help, i hope i can fugure it out

95 civic with a chipped p06 ECu
the previous owner gave me this thing that he said will pull the CEL codes for me but i plugged it into the other part that comes off the ECU and nothing happens.
I think he said it is supposed to flash the code out or beep or something
I can't remember exactly but I couldn't figure it out
Would my best hope be taking it to a shop to get it looked at?

You can retrieve the CEL code(s) by the "jumper wire" method (The device given to you by the previous owner will allow you to do this).
I discovered this method here: https://www.hondacivicforum.com/m_41699/tm.htm
These sites tell you how to perform the jumper wire method and what the code(s) means:

RE: Car Wont Start
Check distrubutor for spark how you ask? easy take a spark plug off leave it attached to spark plug wire turn it over and if you get spark then distributor is good, next thing you can do is turn ignition over listen for fuel pump, if you dont hear it spray brake cleaner down intake manifold and start it if it starts then dies fuel pump took a ****, you can also change spark plugs, wires, ALSO before you replace distrubutor( if you have too) take iff the cap and take a gentle piece of sand paper and sand the prongs, LIGHTLY NOT NO CRAZY SANDING!!. if all of these methods fail, jump the ECU and pull trouble codes jumping the ECU requires a very expensive tool.....

I'll check the distributer for spark later today
I just went outside to try the CEL and i tried to start my car and it started, it sounded like ****, and has no power though.
My dad said he smelt my oil and it smelt like gas, I haven't checked it yet, but I will after school, how could gas get in it?
