Car wont start?
I have a 99 civic dx,alright well heres my problem, uh in the mornings my car wont start after a push start it will run fine and start for the rest f the day. So i did my research on here and started replacing parts. Started with the cheap stuff, bosch platinum 4 spark plugs, spark plug wires, fuel filter, dizzy cap, rotor and finaly the coil. Replaced all them and it still wont start gave it a push start and it didint want to start, pushed some more in she fired up. Got down the road and it dies on me at a stop sign. So i try starting her and nothing get another push and she fires up. So i go for a cruise to warm it up a bit, get home and shut it off, try to start it again and it fired up just fine. So i let it sit for an hour or so, go andtry startin it againand nothing.Cranked her overa couple timesand she finaly started after a couple minutes. So i'm kinda stumped now, my gf's dad thinks its the starter but i dont becouse it turns over. Uh Checked the fuel pump, good. I was reading on here and it looks like my next step would be too get a ignitor? Or what? Any suggestions?
I've ran across this recall http://www.hondacivic.info/subpages/...nda_civic.htmlon here and was wondering if it is for the 99 model also.Since the 99-00 are the same, or no?
I have a 98 lx myself. never replaced the distributor or wires etc. Just the plugs every 2 yrs or so.
I would agree with your gf's father, it's probably the starter if you have to push start it. That tells me that it's unrelated to your plugs, wires, or distributor.
I think it's unlikely the alternator unless you actually have a recharge issue. i'd take it to the an autoparts store and have them test the alternator while it's running.
I just replaced my alternator a month ago so it might be time to check it. Mine was putting out less than 13 volts. a good functioning alternator has to put out at least 14 volts.

It could be the key switch. Make sure the ignition still has power (measure at the 12 volt feed to the distributor) when you turn the key to start.
A simple way to do this would be to NOT press the clutch pedal down so the starter won't engage. Then turn the key to start. The oil and charge lights on the dash should stay ON, indicating the ignition circuit still has power.

i know for the older hondas (such as my 94) the main relay was usually a culprate. it happened to me, it was the occasional crank no-start and after a bunch of key cycles it would run fine. the main relay for my civic is by my left foot near the fuses. find out where yours is and when your car is acting up tap on it and see if it starts.
Sounds like two separate problems - (1) engine won't crank and (2) engine intermittently won't start.
For problem 1:
Clean and tighten battery terminals and connectors, as well as connectors to the starter. If engine still won't crank, your starter is probably bad.
For problem 2:
-When engine won't start, listen for the low humming sound of the fuel pump priming in the rear when you turn the ignition key ON without cranking engine. If you don't hear the fuel pump prime, then check the main relay.
-If the fuel pump primes, then check for spark at all four plugs. Lack of spark could be due to a bad coil or igniter in the distributor.

Well thanks for all the replies... But no there's no codes no check engine light nothing. Uh yeah i cleaned the cables and tightend um up. Dont think its the alternater didint test it but i sat in the car and listened ta some music for bout an hour and she still started... So that leaves me with the starter, main relay, and the ignitor? Or could it be something else? Thanks again...
I take it that the starter always cranks the engine normally, but it will not always start. However you can always turn the key on and roll-start the car easily. But it also dies sometimes when running. Is that correct?
