hey im new to this forum and i was hoping for some help with my 2000 honda civic ex.
so from the beginning i put in a short ram intake car started for about fifteen minutes and died
the distributor wasnt producing any spark so i replaced it, but still no spark or start
replaced rotor and cap for it to but no start or spark.
checked fuses no blown fuses.
no idea what could be wrong its a d16y8
any ideas why im not getting any spark to spark plugs

 

Did you check 15A dash fuse 9? Does the coil get voltage on the Blk/Yel wire with the key in ON(II)?

Any CEL codes? Does the fuel pump also fail to prime?

Did the timing belt strip or snap?

 

I have no ecu codes. also did check fuse nine 15a i have a fuse checker and it said its good. would a timing belt cause the distributor not to spark? its all intact tho

 

fuel pump does prime the problem is the distributor wont make a spark

 

Make sure voltage reaches the distributor on the Blk/Yel wire.

Yes, a stripped or broken timing belt will prevent spark. Remove the oil fill cap and have a buddy crank the engine. Use a flashlight to check whether the rocker arms move. If not, the timing belt has snapped.

 

how do i check those wires

 

Does it try to start really fast?

 

Pull off the distributor cap and locate the Blk/Yel wire attached to either the coil or ICM. Turn the key to ON(II). Touch one test light or multimeter probe to the wire and the other probe to a clean metal part of the thermostat housing. You should measure voltage (battery voltage).

 

okay could a bad battery terminal cause it to not get power? (that's what i think its called, thing that hooks cables to battery nub) one is cracked but it still turnovers like it wants to start and has been broken since i bought the car and never a problem
the distributor and all pieces in it have been replaced so that's not a problem. but i wouldn't know what tools to use to check voltage.

 

A cheap test light will do the trick. You can even find one at Walmart.
