Change antenna on '91 Civic?
No you don't have to take the dash apart. You can reach behind the dash and unplug the antenna wire from the back of the radio. Then pull the wire back away from the radio so it is hanging down from where it comes out on the left side of the car.
Remove the two screws holding the antenna to the roof. Pull the antenna out until you have the plastic tube free. There MUST be some antenna wire left under the dash. DO NOT PULL THE ANTENNA WIRE ALL THE WAY OUT OF THE CAR! (It is very hard to get it back in.)
You will fish the new wire in with the old one. Cut the wire off above the roof of the car, throw the old antenna part away. Securely tape the plug end of the new wire to the cut end of the old wire above the roof.
Then pull on the end under the dash and push the new wire into the roof until you have the new plug inside the car. Pull the wire the rest of the way in while installing the tube of the new antenna into the hole in the roof. Secure it with the screws. Route the new wire over and plug it into the radio.
Instructions similar to these are packed with the new antenna if you buy it from a dealer. It is very important not to mess up on the wire part. If you lose the wire it is a huge headache.
