Default Changing the Oil

My 06 Civic Coupe has a Maintenance Minder system and I am told that I do not need to do anything until the message apears and it will tell me what service should be preformed.

My car has about 15,000 miles on it and about 6,000 since the last oil change and I usually like to change oil at 5,000 miles on all my vehicles since it is a nice round number to remember.

Should I have the oil changed even though the maintenance minder is still at 40%.

Any suggestions?

since its been about 6000 km without a oil chage I take it you drive like my grandmother. The minder thing goes by how you drive the vehicle if you are always driving with the pedal to the mat. then your oil changes are going to be like every 3000km but if you are cruising on the highway at 120 never on it hard it wil last up to 9000 I would never trust that cause its crazy but.. its up to you make sure it won't void the warranty if you do it sooner.. my buddy has a new cooper S and it gets the oil changes every 20,000km and if you do it any sooner it voids the warranty

wtf are you on about?

the maintenance reminders in hondas are not based on driving hardness, they're based strictly on mileage.

he's also talking about MILES, not kilometers, 6000 kilometeres = 3750 miles... so it should in theory be at about 75% considering a 5000 mile duty cycle on the oil or 8000km.

i believe from the factory they recommend a 5000 or 7500 mile interval for oil changes, but you'd have to consult your manual.

there is no harm in changing it earlier than the manual recommends
