Civic identification and tranny estimations!
KK, So I just got a 94 Civic automatic for my sister....But the engine identification tag is ripped off and have no idea what it is....
vin is.....1HGEJ1236RL01173 heres a pic...
What kinf of Civic is this and whats the engine size? 1.3L or 1.6?

Nexlty having some tranny issue....I cant get it out of Park without sticking something in the 'Shift Lock' hole, and holding it down to shift....how do I unlock that???
Also, lol, Theres no more reverse....when you pop it in, its act like Nuetral....I'm sure this is a repeat post, but assuming its a reverse band, anyone have rough estimates for a garage to adjust it?
New to Civics and front wheel drive some any help would be awsome!

As to your other problem, there is an interlock switch on the brake pedal that disengages that lock. You can't shift without the brake pedal engaged while in park. When you barely tap the pedal, there should be an audible click.
If you have no reverse in an automatic transmission, it is possible that the transmission is bad. I would like for another member to respond though.

Check that the brake lights work. I think the shift interlock uses the same switch and fuse.
The shift linkage may be out of adjustment causing reverse to not work. Try moving the handle slowly all the way from park to drive to see if it ever catches in reverse. If not there is going to be a problem inside the transmission. There's really nothing to adjust other than the shift linkage and checking / changing fluid. Many people convert the car to manual when the automatic quits. It's a straightforward bolt-on conversion. Kind of silly to have a bunch of tuner parts on an automatic anyway.

kk...so turns out..NO brakes lights....but I check most of the fuses...they all seem ok, what fuse # should I be looking for? It'd be nice to be able to get outa park without havin to push the Shift Lock down....fuse diagram would be awsome...in case maybe I'm missing a fuse idk about.
Any still no one knows what a reverse band adjustment would cost? guess either way the tranny has to come out ehh?

Here's where it gets complicated...
The chassis code for your Civic is EJ1. The broader category for that generation is EG.
Your trim level is EX if it has vtec, power windows and mirrors, and a moonroof.
