Civic losing coolant (Radiator issue)
Hi guys!
I'm new to the forum and wanted to ask for some help with my car.
I have a 1990 Honda Civic DX (don't know engine size).
About 2 weekends ago, when I got home from school for the weekend, my car started leaking anti-freeze randomly. So, I let it slide and used my dad's car until Thanksgiving break. Then I went back to it and went under the hood to inspect it. I found that at the bottom of the radiator, coolant was leaking out of this one hole. Apparently this one hole is suppose to have a cap on it, but it apparently broke off so I think I have that understood. But it's this other hole that I cannot figure out what to do with. I've included pictures so you can get an understanding.

PW: car
So you have a picture of my Radiator with the X's = FANS
And You have Hole #2 with 2 options of which that hole connects to (either the Fan or the random tube connect to some part of the engine).
My dad pointed out the fan one saying that maybe when the coolant got too hot, it sent heat/liquid to the fan which acted as a sensor and turned the fan on. Neither of us are car experts though, so it's only an educated guess.
Just let me know what you think
Thanks,
-Michael

we can't see the pic, we don't have the password
but anyway plug up the hole witha new cap. fill it up with water and test it to see if it leaks anymore
without seeing the other holes, it's probably for tranny oil cooling, if your car is an automatic

RE: Civic losing coolant (Radiator issue)
The holes in the radiator are to hook up to an automatic transmission. Someone has previously replaced the radiator in your car with one from an automatic. Ordinarily this is OK and you can just leave the transmission cooler holes open, but now the transmission cooler has started leaking. You can try to plug the holes so the leak doesn't matter, or replace the radiator. If you get another adapater fitting like the one on hole #2 and connect the two fittings with a length of hose, that will seal up the cooler so it can't leak.
The two tubes you've shown need to be left open to the air and pointing down as they are. They are for ventilating the fan motor and the transmission respectively. Do not connect anything to them.

and i must say DANG thats a huge radiator.LOL
but if its leaking from 1 and 2 then just cap them.....
easiest way to do it is get some hightemp silicone and a hose to fit those plugs, the threaded one and the other tube.... then put the sealer all around the threads, pop the hose on thier and with some hose CLAMPS on both hose points....
and if thats the problem leaking area then it should be fine
on the radiators ive had in my civics and crxs they have only had the 2 radiator hoses.LOL they dont seem needed...

That is the standard 4th gen radiator. In later models they finally figured out that it didn't need to be nearly that large for a 1500 cc engine, and went to the half wide ones.

Your radiator is not completely fine, the transmission cooler part is leaking. But that isn't used on a manual car. So you could cap it off. If you have the cash since the radiator is already out of the car I'd just replace it with a new one.
