Civic will not start on a hot sunny day ????
Hello…. Hope you can help me. I have a 93 civic 1.5L 5 spd. The problem I have has been going on for a few years now, and now seems to be getting worst (happens more often).
On a hot sunny day if I park the car in the direct sun light for a few hours the car will not start. It appears to be a fuel problem. I can start it right up with starter fluid and keep it running with the fluid but as soon as I stop it stalls. If I push the car into the shade for a few hours it will start right up like nothing was ever wrong. It’s driving me crazy I hope someone here might know what’s wrong. EFI is over my head too many wires and “do ma jigs” so if you have an idea for me to try please go slow. THANKS!!!!! |
This is pretty much a textbook main relay failure. To confirm, turn the key to the ignition 2 position and listen for a low hum from the back seat. That'll be the fuel pump priming. If this does not occur, it is very likely that the solder on your main relay has cracked.
The relay itself is a grey box under the drivers side lower dash. It looks like this: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ale/Relay1.jpg Pop it open and resolder the connections. Thats the cheapest and easiest fix. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...ale/Relay2.jpg Replacement is also an option but it's much more expensive. |

my resolder did not work. Car will not start at all now. I think the solder job looks real good, almost factory. I removed most all the old solder first. No big deal I'll just go buy a new one today. I'm just glad I now know whats causing it not to start on a hot day.

Does the fuel pump prime?
Is there spark at all four plugs? Any CEL codes? |
Installed new main relay and it runs like a top now.
Thanks for the help!!! |
