Default Cleaning pistons

I took the head off my 2001 LX, and there were some deposits on top of the cylinders, which I'd like to remove. Before I took the timing belt off, I set the crank to top dead center. As you can see from the picture below, cylinders 2 and 3 are going to be difficult to clean. Will it do any harm if I turn the crankshaft until cylinders 2 and 3 are at the top and are therefore easier to clean?

No, you just have to set it back to TDC before putting the timing belt back on.

Also right after taking a head off, put rags in the oil return holes so stuff can't fall through them into the crankcase.

Too late for that this time, but I'll have to remember that for when I next remove a head.
