clicking sound drives me crazy
Hi, i am new to this board. I just bought a 2005 4 door honda civic LX (automatic) three weeks ago. It has around 300 miles so far. . So i put my key in, drive around for awhile, then stop, turn the engine off, and pull the key out. Then i hear this clicking sound in my engine or underneath my car. It makes a "click" sound every few seconds then it stops. It stops completely after 45 seconds or so. My friend said may be the engine is cooling down or something,, he is not sure about it... Do u know what is the problem is before i take the problem back to my honda dealer? I heard from someone there is a break-in period of 600 miles or something... should i be worried about this? thanks

If you think there is something wrong with your car by hearing a clicking noise, you would know better than us if it sounds bad, cause we cant hear it, but if you just drove it off the lot take it back and tell them demenstrate it for them and see what they can do I am guessing you got a warranty, and about a engine break in period 600 miles is nothing, especially for a honda those cars can go up to 600,000 i have seen with no major probs, and a good break in for a engine is after 25 to 30 thousand miles.

sounds normal to me. but if you are worried, that sucker is under warrenty, go get it checked out. they might not even have to pop the hood to check it out. Im laying my money down that they will say its normal, but take it to the dealer any way, it will only take you 5 minutes.

Every car does that. It's just the sound of hot engine components radiating heat and cooling down, causing miniscule contractions. But yeah, if you want to, go have someone check it out to make sure everything's kosher. Personally, I wouldn't worry about it.

I know what sound your talking about and I agree that the engine may be cooling down. I hear a lot of car making the clicking sound after they turn of the engine.
