93 Civic EX once again...since its gotten really cold out, my heater doesnt work like it used to. What I mean by that is if I let it sit and rev it a little the heat kicks ***, but when I am going down the road and especially on the interstate, it gets to be maybe luke warm or a lil warmer and thats it. During all of this the temp guage goes right to the middle like it always has. I was wondering if I should get a hotter thermostat for it (like 192 degree instead of 180) and flush everything out including the heater core? Or should I just put cardboard in front of the rad?

 

If it is hotter when you are parked, then my guess is that the air running through the radiator and over the engine is really cold.....so yes, cardboard (paint that stuff black dude!) is the way to go.

 

Ok I will do that...the windchill here in NW Ohio (Toledo) has ranged from anywhere between -10 to -20 below zero....also, how did you get your gauges to glow red like that? I noticed in the picture u had up....I would love to do something like that to mine...the white gets boring after a while.

Since your car heats up fine, i don't think the thermostat is the problem. I suspect that something is wrong with the heater core.

 

Heat inside the car will not get warm if a heater core is bad so I'm pretty sure that is not the problem.

 

I was thinking that maybe getting the cooling system flushed really good would be the best solution...but I dont know. I do know in the past year I have had the car I have not had this done so maybe it is time for a pressure test and a really good flushing/fresh antifreeze and then see what it does. What would u guys do? My main concern is that if the heater core were bad then why would the heat get nice and hot if I am sitting still and holding the car just above 1,000 rpm's? I am going to finally be replacing the timing belt and water pump when I buy my new clutch for it. Found out that the grinding noise I posted about on here a while back is in fact my pilot bearing but I am just going to go ahead and replace the clutch and be done with it.

 

you can get a oem thermostat that has a slightly hotter setting. i had the same problem, try that, it worked for me, and hasnt effected the car at all

 

Do youlet outer air into your cabin or do you recirculate?

 

Try adding coolant, if its low it wont work as well as it can.
