I have a 95 civic. I'm getting 9 flashes on the diagnostic light indicating a "Cylinder Sensor" fault. The car still runs ok but is hard to start. I would like to try to fix this myself. Any pointers or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

 

That sensor is inside the distributor and not sold separately. Replace the whole distributor. If you buy a rebuilt one, do not turn in your "core" one until the new one is on the car and working. Of course, the timing must be checked/set after replacing distributor.

 

In addition to the 9 flashes, I have also determined that the engine consistently bogs down between 3000 and 3200 RPM. Below that, the engine always runs perfectly smooth. This bogging also occurs when the trans is in neutral. Does this still sound like a distributor replacement?
If so, I would like to try to do this myself. Are there any instructions out there on how to do this?

 

Replace the distributor housing and go from there.

 

Thanks everyone for your help. The problem was chipmonks! Yes chipmonks had chewed up some wires ( a bundle about 10 inches directly in front of the battery) about 6 wires had the insulation chewed up and some wires were touching. I taped up the wires and no more bogging!
