Default de smog

Newbi here with some ?s.

Just bought an 87 civic with a 1500 cc engine and auto trans.
Looks like it was a Calif. car and I want to de smog it.
any links to simplifying this engine?

Next if runs very rough in drive with brake on well stopped at a light.
Have to put it in Neutral and it runs smooth.
Guessing this is part of the vacuum hoses for the smog etc.??
Hopeing some one on this form has pulled the hoses and documented the work they did.

Wondering what the Operating temp is in one of these cars.
This seems to be running at about 90' C- near 100'C at times.
I read on the form 85'c is this right?
The gauge might be off. 15 bucks worth of gauge but better than the stock dash one.

This is a simple motor all tubed up and I want to gut all this junk.
No big deal with emissions here and I will end up putting LPG (propane) to power it once done.

Any help or links much appreciated.

I recall that Hondas and Acuras (with auto trannies) of that era did not have smooth idles. My nephew's Integra had a fairly rough idle. For that matter, so does my 89 Mazda MX6 GT.

Engine coolant temp: Could it have a 195 degree (F) thermostat?
