Dead in Driveway
Help!I have a 2000 Civic Ex. I started it up one morning to go to work. I backed out of the driveway fine, put it in 1st and drove about 5 feet and the car just died. I tried starting it back up but with no success. The battery is fine and the engine tries to turnover but cannot start. No Check Engine Light.
Anyone have any suggestions to fixing or finding the problem? I don't want to have to tow it to get a CEL code or fixed if I can do it myself.

RE: Dead in Driveway
You likely have a problem with either the fuel system (main relay, fuel pump, or fuel filter) or the ignition system (coil or igniter in the distributor).
1) Test whether your fuel pump is working by carefully listening for a low humming sound for a few seconds coming from under the rear seats when you turn the ignition key to ON without cranking the engine. If you don't hear the fuel pump, then there are additional tests to distinguish between a main relay versus fuel pump problem. Nevertheless, check whether fuse 13 or 31 in the under-dash fuse/relay box is blown.
2) Test whether you have spark at the plugs by removing a plug wire, inserting a spark plug in the end of the wire, and grounding the threads of the plug on a convenient metal part of the engine. Wear rubber gloves to avoid electrical shock. Have a friend crank the engine. You should see a bright spark at the end of the plug. If you do not see spark, then you may have a bad coil or igniter in the distributor.
Post the outcome of your tests to receive more feedback.
