Default Do I really NEED a knock sensor?

I replaced mine 5 months ago. I reached in to check and make sure it was still plugged in because I'm getting the code for it. I barely touched it and the plastic part came off the metal part. There's still a little wire running to the sensor, but I figure it's probably no good or at least setting off the CEL. So, do I really need it? Everybody talks about grounding the wire to get the CEL off. Is that a good idea?? I'm sick of looking at that light. I just replaced a missing bulb for it, but I'm ready to pull it back out!

the knock sensor sends signal to ecu to adj timing. also if you have a cel then the ecu will not allow vtec to kick in

just ground it. the oem knock sensor really aren't that accurate in the first place. and imo it's much worse to take out the bulb in case some other problem occurs and the check engine light needs to come on, if you ground the sensor with a wire, cel still function and the code goes away

they are pretty fragile and break frequently too, which is why i have mine grounded

I get what your saying, but my vtec was not kicking in when the pressure switch plug came a little loose. Now it's kicking in fine even with the CEL on for the knock sensor.?

I was only thinking of taking out the CEL bulb because what good does it do me if its on all the time? I still won't know if there's a new problem. Just put it in every now and then and check the codes. But I will try grounding the wire. Seems like he best solution.

I agree. But what other real choice is there if the light is on all the time? Something could be going wrong and I wouldn't know anyway. I would think it was just the knock sensor.

if you ground the knock sensor, the light won't be on. or if it's still on then it's on for another code
